Yellow River
A river in Wisconsin
About Yellow River
This Yellow River runs 40 miles through Chippewa County, past Colburn, on its way to the Chippewa River system. The survey puts 677 acres of surface and 129 miles of bank on it. It is one of several Wisconsin rivers by this name and should not be confused with the Yellow River in Juneau County or the one in Burnett.
One public access is on record for the whole length of it.
Lake sturgeon are classified here as naturally reproducing, and smallmouth habitat as nursery and wadable warm water. Nursery classification on a tributary of this size means the state treats it as a place fish come from rather than a destination in its own right — worth knowing before planning a day here.
Check the current Wisconsin DNR regulations before keeping fish.

Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
