Turtle River
A river in Wisconsin
About Turtle River
The Turtle River runs 14 miles through Iron County near Mercer, down to the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. The survey gives it 309 acres of surface and 38 miles of bank — small water that sits in the middle of well-known country.
One public access is on record, the boat ramp at Lake of the Falls County Park.
The walleye classification here is the interesting one. The state manages walleye on different reaches of this short river as natural reproduction only, as stocking plus natural reproduction, and as natural reproduction and stocking in equal measure — all three of its categories, on fourteen miles of water. Musky are managed as natural reproduction plus stocking, and smallmouth habitat is classified as wadable warm water.
Check the current DNR regulations for the stretch being fished.

Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
