South Branch Pigeon River

A river in Wisconsin

About South Branch Pigeon River

The South Branch of the Pigeon River runs seven miles through Waupaca County, through Buckbee and near Marion and Big Falls. The survey puts 63 acres of surface and 20 miles of bank on it.

Eleven miles are classified as Class I and Class II trout water with an Exceptional Resource Water listing. Class I means trout the state considers self-sustaining without stocking. Smallmouth habitat is classified as nursery water.

No public boat landing is on record, and on a branch this size none is needed. This is small, cold water fished on foot.

Trout regulations vary by reach and by season, and access depends on where public ground meets the water. Check the current DNR trout regulations and access maps.

Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
