Sheboygan River

A river in Wisconsin

About Sheboygan River

The Sheboygan River runs 26 miles through Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties, through Millhome, Rockville, Johnsonville and Sheboygan Falls, before reaching Lake Michigan at the city of Sheboygan. The survey puts 933 acres of surface and 131 miles of bank on it.

Three public landings are on record. Just under four miles are classified as Class I and Class II trout water with an Exceptional Resource Water listing — a short reach, but Class I means self-sustaining trout without stocking. Smallmouth habitat is classified as nursery and wadable warm water.

A river reaching one of the Great Lakes fishes differently from an inland river of the same size, because what runs up it seasonally is not what lives in it year round.

Lake Michigan tributary rules can differ from inland regulations. Check the current DNR rules for the reach being fished.

Written from Wisconsin DNR hydrography and fisheries data. State water ID WBIC 50700.

Fishing license

Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.

Do you know this water?

The state lists these ramps nearby but doesn’t say which water they belong to. If you fish Sheboygan River, you’ll know better than we do.
