Rush River
A river in Wisconsin
About Rush River
The Rush River runs 28 miles through Pierce and St. Croix counties, through El Paso, Martell and Centerville, down toward the Mississippi near Maiden Rock. The survey gives it 169 acres of surface and 46 miles of bank.
Thirty-four miles are classified as Class I and Class II trout water with an Exceptional Resource Water listing. Class I is the state's designation for trout that sustain themselves without stocking, and the Rush carries it over a long stretch. Smallmouth habitat is classified as wadable cool and warm water.
No public boat landing is on record. This is western Wisconsin coulee country, and the river is fished by wading from bridge crossings and public easements.
Trout regulations vary by reach and by season. Check the current DNR trout regulations and access maps.

Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
