Popple River
A river in Wisconsin
About Popple River
The Popple runs 22 miles through Forest and Florence counties in the far northeast, past Fern, Fence and Newald. The survey gives it 360 acres of surface and 79 miles of bank.
It is a federally designated Wild and Scenic river, carries an Outstanding Resource Water listing, and has 46 miles classified as Class I, Class II and Class III trout water across its system. Class I is the state's designation for a trout population that sustains itself entirely. Smallmouth habitat is classified as nursery and wadable warm water.
Four public accesses are on record, which for a protected river of this length is enough to get on and not enough to make it busy.
Trout regulations vary by reach and by season. Check the current DNR rules before fishing it.

Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
