Plover River
A river in Wisconsin
About Plover River
The Plover River runs 36 miles through Marathon and Portage counties, through Bevent, Hatley and Jordan and down past Park Ridge to the Wisconsin River at Stevens Point. The survey gives it 473 acres of surface and 109 miles of bank.
Thirty-six miles are classified as Class I, Class II and Class III trout water with an Outstanding Resource Water listing, the state's highest. Class I means self-sustaining trout. Smallmouth habitat is classified across cool, warm and nursery water on the lower river.
One public landing is on record. A trout river of this length running past a city is fished mostly by wading, and the classified reaches are worth mapping before going.
Trout regulations vary by reach and by season. Check the current DNR rules for the stretch being fished.

Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
