Platte River
A river in Wisconsin
About Platte River
The Platte runs 19 miles through Grant County in the far southwest, past the town of Paris, to the Mississippi. The survey gives it 362 acres of surface and 68 miles of bank.
Twenty-nine miles are classified as Class II trout water — more classified mileage than the river's straight-line span, because the classification follows the channel and its tributary reaches rather than the map. The river is on the state's impaired waters list. Smallmouth habitat is classified as wadable cool and warm water lower down.
One public access is on record, at Banfield Bridge. This is Driftless trout country, and as with most of it the fishing is done wading, from bridge crossings and public easements.
Trout regulations in this part of the state are specific by stream and season. Check the current DNR trout regulations and stream access maps.
Written from Wisconsin DNR hydrography and fisheries data. State water ID WBIC 943600.

Fishing license
Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
