A river in Wisconsin

About North Branch Embarrass River

The North Branch of the Embarrass runs 10 miles through Shawano County, through Tilleda and Leopolis and past Bowler and Pella. The survey puts 101 acres of surface and 29 miles of bank on it.

Thirty-four miles across its system are classified as Class I, Class II and Class III trout water with an Outstanding Resource Water listing, the state's highest water quality designation. Smallmouth habitat is classified as nursery and wadable warm water.

One public landing is on record. All three branches of the Embarrass carry heavy trout classification, and taken together they make this corner of Shawano County worth a closer look than its profile suggests.

Trout regulations vary by reach and by season. Check the current DNR trout regulations and access maps.

Written from Wisconsin DNR hydrography and fisheries data. State water ID WBIC 301300.
