Middle Branch Embarrass River

A river in Wisconsin

About Middle Branch Embarrass River

The Middle Branch of the Embarrass runs 20 miles through Shawano County, past Wittenberg, Caroline and Five Corners. The survey puts 287 acres of surface and 75 miles of bank on it.

Forty-nine miles across its system are classified as Class I and Class II trout water, with an Outstanding Resource Water listing, the state's highest. That is a great deal of self-sustaining trout water for a branch river in this part of the state. Smallmouth habitat is classified as nursery and wadable warm water.

No public boat landing is on record. This is water fished on foot, from bridges and public frontage.

Trout regulations vary by reach and by season. Check the current DNR trout regulations and access maps.

Written from Wisconsin DNR hydrography and fisheries data. State water ID WBIC 310700.

Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
