Little Wolf River

A river in Wisconsin

About Little Wolf River

The Little Wolf runs 34 miles through Waupaca County, past Royalton and the town of Little Wolf, before joining the Wolf. The survey puts 619 acres of surface and 105 miles of bank on it.

Twenty-eight miles are classified as Class I and Class II trout water, and the river carries an Exceptional Resource Water listing. Class I is the state's designation for a trout population that sustains itself entirely without stocking, and that is not a common thing to find on a river of this length in central Wisconsin. Below the trout water, smallmouth habitat is classified across four types.

Three public accesses are on record: two river accesses and the canoe access at Royalton Park. Most of the trout water is reached by wading.

Trout regulations vary by reach and by season. Check the current DNR rules for the specific stretch before fishing it.

Written from Wisconsin DNR hydrography and fisheries data. State water ID WBIC 272400.

Fishing license

Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
