Fox River
A river in Wisconsin
About Fox River
This is the other Fox River — the one that runs south. It rises near Waukesha and runs 43 miles through Waukesha, Racine and Kenosha counties past Waterford, Burlington, Wheatland and Silver Lake toward Illinois and eventually the Illinois River. It shares nothing but a name with the Fox that runs north to Green Bay.
The survey puts 1,265 acres of surface and 147 miles of bank on it. Five public landings are on record: Fox River County Park, Huening Park, Riverside Park, and two canoe launches.
Smallmouth bass is the only state fisheries designation here, classified across four habitat types including nursery water. The river runs through settled country and a chain of small lakes, and reads more like a series of connected pools than a single flowing river.

Fishing license
Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
Do you know this water?
The state lists these ramps nearby but doesn’t say which water they belong to. If you fish Fox River, you’ll know better than we do.
