Fisher River

A river in Wisconsin

About Fisher River

The Fisher River runs 14 miles through Chippewa and Taylor counties, close to Holcombe, Arnold and Cornell, before joining the Chippewa system. The survey gives it 122 acres of surface and 18 miles of bank.

Lake sturgeon are classified here as naturally reproducing, which is the fact worth knowing about this river. A tributary of this size carrying a self-sustaining sturgeon classification says something about the health of the system it belongs to. Smallmouth habitat is classified as nursery water.

No public boat landing is on record. Access is from bridges and roadside.

Sturgeon are protected in most Wisconsin waters and the rules are specific. Check the current DNR regulations before fishing it.

Fishing license

Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
