Embarrass River
A river in Wisconsin
About Embarrass River
The Embarrass runs 25 miles through Shawano and Waupaca counties, past the village that shares its name and the town of Pella, before joining the Wolf River near New London. The survey gives it 915 acres of surface and 136 miles of bank.
Two public accesses are on record: a river access and a canoe launch.
Lake sturgeon are classified here as naturally reproducing, which matters — this is part of the Wolf River system, one of the few places in the state where that classification appears on a tributary of this size. Smallmouth habitat is classified across four types including nursery water.
Sturgeon regulations in the Wolf system are specific and long-standing. Check the current DNR rules before fishing it.

Fishing license
Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
