East Branch Eau Claire River

A river in Wisconsin

About East Branch Eau Claire River

The East Branch of the Eau Claire River runs 13 miles through Langlade County, through Deerbrook and past Neva and Kempster. The survey puts 149 acres of surface and 37 miles of bank on it. This is the Wolf River basin Eau Claire, not either of the two that feed the Chippewa and the Wisconsin.

Nineteen miles across its system are classified as Class I and Class III trout water with an Exceptional Resource Water listing. Musky are managed as natural reproduction plus stocking, and smallmouth habitat is classified as nursery and wadable warm water.

Two public accesses are on record. Langlade County holds a good deal of classified trout water in a small area, and this is one of several rivers there worth knowing.

Trout regulations vary by reach and by season. Check the current DNR rules for the stretch in question.

Written from Wisconsin DNR hydrography and fisheries data. State water ID WBIC 1442200.
