Brunet River

A river in Wisconsin

About Brunet River

The Brunet River runs 17 miles through Sawyer County, a couple of miles from Winter and Exeland, before reaching the Chippewa system. The survey gives it 186 acres of surface and 42 miles of bank.

Nineteen miles across its system are classified as Class I and Class II trout water with an Exceptional Resource Water listing. Class I means a trout population the state considers self-sustaining. Musky are managed as natural reproduction plus stocking, and smallmouth habitat as nursery and wadable warm water.

No public boat landing is on record. A Class I trout reach in northern forest country is fished on foot, and that is the whole of the access story here.

Trout regulations vary by reach and by season. Check the current DNR rules before fishing it.

Fishing license

Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
