Brule River
A river in Wisconsin
About Brule River
This Brule forms part of the Wisconsin–Michigan border, running 31 miles through Florence and Forest counties past Nelma, Tyran and the village of Florence toward the Menominee. It is a different river from the Bois Brule that runs north to Lake Superior, and the two are worth keeping straight.
Forty-four miles are classified as Class I and Class II trout water with an Outstanding Resource Water listing, the state's highest. Class I means trout that sustain themselves without stocking. Musky here are classified as self-sustaining via natural reproduction, and smallmouth habitat as wadable warm water.
Ten public accesses are on record, a generous number for a river with this much protected water on it. The survey puts 739 acres of surface and 107 miles of bank on it.
A border river may involve two states' rules depending on where a line goes in. Check the current Wisconsin DNR regulations and the boundary-water provisions.

Fishing license
Wisconsin sells them online. Buy one from the state. We don’t know whether you need one — that depends on your age, where you live, the water, and what your guide’s own license covers.
Do you know this water?
The state lists these ramps nearby but doesn’t say which water they belong to. If you fish Brule River, you’ll know better than we do.
