Minnesota is a state overflowing with fishable water. The ?Land of 10,000 Lakes? offers anglers a huge variety of freshwater fishing opportunities from spring creeks full of trout in the Driftless Region; to lakes and rivers of all sizes booming with walleye, muskellunge, bass, and panfish; to the open waters of Lake Superior where lake trout, salmon, and steelhead abound.

The Southeast corner of the state is home to the Driftless Area, a region famous for it?s limestone spring creeks that flow through pastoral farm lands and bluff-lined canyons where anglers test their dry fly fishing skills on wary rainbow, brown, and native brook trout. In Central Minnesota, along with the countless natural lakes that hold big numbers of pike, bass, panfish, and walleye, you?ll find something unique to the area: mine pit lakes stocked with rainbow trout. In Northeast Minnesota, anglers find some of the most picture-perfect fishing opportunities in the lakes and streams along the north shore of Lake Superior. The famous Boundary Waters Canoe Area wilderness is a vast network of pristine lakes where smallmouth bass, northern pike, and walleye can be caught. Steelheaders will find refuge in the states Northeastern streams and rivers, with the Knife River being one of the best.

With such a wide variety of quality water fish species, Minnesota is a state that shouldn?t be overlooked by fly anglers. When planning a fishing trip to Minnesota, keep in mind the winter hits hard in this northern state which is reflected in the fishing seasons. Generally, April through September is open season for trout, and May through February is the typical open season for northern pike, walleye, and bass. Be sure to check with local authorities on species-specific regulations and seasons before fishing.
