For some of the West?s finest high mountain trout fishing, look no further than Utah. Home to thousands of alpine lakes and small mountain streams full of wild trout, as well as one of North America?s premier tailwater fisheries, Utah?s abundance of fly-fishable water takes anglers to some of the most iconic and surreal landscapes imaginable.

South-central Utah is home to Seven-Mile Creek and the Fremont River, both offering exceptional trout fishing, but are very different in character. Seven-Mile Creek is a perfect example of a small high-mountain stream, ambling through meadows and stacked with brook trout as well as the Bonneville, Yellowstone, and Colorado River strains of cutthroat trout. The Fremont River is the largest river in the area, flowing through high desert terrain, with some of the best fishing in its tailwater sections, where large brown, rainbow, cutthroat, and tiger trout can be caught. Southern Utah?s most wild and remote fishing is found within the Boulder Mountains, where over 50 lakes and small streams support populations of small brook and cutthroat trout, though some sizable fish can be discovered.

The northeast section of Utah boasts some of the state's most productive waters, including the Green River, a blue ribbon trout stream regarded as one of the premier tailwaters in the country. High numbers of wild rainbows and browns occupy the clear, emerald waters of the Green, with average fish clocking in at 15 to 17-inches, but with much larger fish to be had. The Provo River and the Weber River are two more blue ribbon trout streams in northeast Utah, giving resident and visiting anglers many options to experience classic Western fly fishing at its best. Even more northeast wilderness angling opportunities exist up in the Uinta Mountains, where more than 500 lakes and 400 miles of small streams support populations of arctic grayling and brook trout.
