Missouri probably isn?t the first state that comes to mind when you think of fly fishing, but thanks to its long history of dedicated and prolific trout management programs and the introduction of trout parks, the Show Me State boasts world-class angling opportunities, plus some of the U.S.?s finest wild trout fishing.

Most of Missouri?s fly fishing waters are located in the central to southern portions of the state within the forested Ozarks. In some of Missouri?s most scenic state parks, including Bennett Spring State Park, Montauk State Park, and Roaring River State Park, you?ll find trout parks which provide anglers of all skill levels a surefire way to get onto some trout. For a more wild experience, head to one of Missouri?s blue ribbon trout streams like the North Fork of the White River, home to the largest wild rainbow population in the Midwest; the Current River, which supports an excellent population of brown trout; the Eleven Point River, the least-pressured wild trout stream in the state; or the Little Piney River, the state?s longest wild trout fishery. If you?re looking for lunkers, Missouri?s red-ribbon waters are managed for trophy-sized fish and are home to brown and rainbow trout. In the southwest part of the state, in the heart of Branson, you?ll find Lake Taneycomo. Stocked with about 700,000 trout annually, Lake Taneycomo is where to go to catch monster trout as well as popular warmwater species like bass, crappie, and bluegill.

For more warmwater fly fishing, cast a line at Pomme de Terre ? the state?s best location for catching musky, Lake Wappapello State Park where the main quarry is crappie, bass, and catfish, or Watkins Mill State Park near Kansas City where you can chase large numbers of bass, catfish, crappie, and sunfish.
